Now you can download Windows XP Service Pack 2 from Microsoft's homepage and get Sámi as a standard language in Windows XP. That means that you can use Sámi in all programs. You may still encounter problems writing Sámi in the Outlook Calendar, in the subject field in your e-mail and in programs from other suppliers than Microsoft.

  • You can download software for Sámi keyboard for PC from the Sámi Parliaments homepage (Windows 2000, Windows 95/98/ME)

Documentation - character set (UTF-8)
We have written some pages so you can test your browser. They also serve as documentation of how to write Sámi letters in web pages (WS2 and UTF-8).

Sámi character set on our webpages
Before 2002 our Sámi homepages were published in two different variants: WS2 and Unicode. In 2002 we decided to publish our pages only in Unicode.

The idea of publishing our pages with Unicode is that you don't need special Sámi character sets to be able to read the pages. If you have an old computer you will need to install the Unicode fonts included in your version of Microsoft Windows.

There might still be old Sámi homepages in the WS2-format, but our intention is to publish and update all pages using Unicode only.
